Balsamic Poached Pears

Ingredients:

  • 3, pears - We recommend choosing firmer ones so they hold their shape while poaching.
  • 1/2 cup, brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup, il Fustino Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1/4 cup, apple juice
  • 1 tbsp, lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp, butter
  • 2, cinnamon sticks
  • 2, vanilla beans - split lengthwise
  • vanilla ice cream - for serving

Directions:

Into a small skillet, add the brown sugar, balsamic, apple juice, lemon juice, butter, cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans. 

Heat on low and let simmer while you prepare the pears. Peel the pears, slice in half lengthwise and remove the core. 

Carefully add the prepared pears into the skillet, cut side down. Bring to a low boil then reduce to a simmer and cover. Let simmer for 15 minutes. Flip the pears over and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

Remove the pears with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the liquid in the skillet.

Increase heat to medium high, simmer until the liquid is reduced by half. Remove from heat and let cool.

Serve each pear half over a scoop of vanilla ice cream and top with the reduced balsamic mixture.
